James Straffon

Le Tour de Terminal 5
Good friend, keen cyclist and image-maker James Straffon has recently exhibited a series of stunning Tour de France inspired images to celebrate the events 97th tour this July. Furthermore, global fashion power house Paul Smith, a keen cyclist too, is exhibiting James's art work at Heathrow's Terminal 5. James, who had recently taken still-lives for Contact, contributes to über cool cycline journal The Ride and updates his cycling blog No Endeavour. View more of James's cycling images at No Gallery.

Homebirds

Direct marketing at your service
If you reside in north London, like me you may have received a fun piece of direct mail through your post. Homebirds, a service which advertises its home cleaning service, sponged in a clean bit of creativity using a wooden clothes peg as part of the design. Sparkling stuff…

Howdens

Finely crafted books
On a recent trip to our local builders merchant, Howdens, I found these interesting little books as part of the 'in-store' display. At closer inspection, this is a promotional campaign which aims to give an insignt into 'the relationships that make Howdens a part of local life…'. Interesting stuff no doubt, but what is interesting is the purity in design and production values that have been applied to the project. A mix of book-like finish, strong portraiture together with a classic yet simple design structure help create a quality, hand-crafted marketing communication piece.

Stop the press:
MagCulture
in print
Having received a copy in the post, I was really impressed by the design and newsprint format version of Jeremy Leslie's MagCulture web blog. A refreshing piece of graphic minimalism, condensed signature type style and tight grid structures.

Contact issue 22

Contact gets into a flap!
So, my editor asks "Shakespears 'Seven Ages of Man'…niche marketing…what's the next cover going to be…?" My reply was simply "…a heptagon on the cover…you open each segment like a flap…et voilå…"

Turn Up The Colour exhibition

Supermundane
Fire and Knives illustrative maestro Supermundane is currently busy drafting up a team of 'happy little people' for my next issue of Contact. Whilst he's takes in my endless list of amends he's found time to take part in a few exhibitions - Turn Up The Colour organised by Analogue Books opens on 30th July and runs through August.

Binary & The Brain

Binary & The Brain
Regular contributors to Contact, B&TB continue to ply their trade in the latest issue (see above). Cleverly fusing together the themes of brands, trust and social networking they came up with an imaginative typo-graphic contruction. Read more about the above work and more here.
